Earth Day was founded in 1970. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for a nationwide demonstration in the spring of 1970 aimed to raise awareness of environmental issues. It worked. The first national Earth Day was April 22, 1970.
Toilets in the Lasdon House student residence were consuming 3.5 gallons of water per flush. As part of the water conservation project in 2019, all toilets in the student apartments were replaced with models that consume 1.28 gallons of water per flush. In collaboration with the Housing Department, 170 toilets were replaced, saving 3,819 gallons of water daily and 1,393,935 gallons annually.
