Earth Day was founded in 1970. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin called for a nationwide demonstration in the spring of 1970 aimed to raise awareness of environmental issues. It worked. The first national Earth Day was April 22, 1970.

Backup defrosting ULT freezer.
Please fill out the form below in order to reserve the backup ultra-low temperature freezer for your defrosting maintenance (for a maximum of one week). This unit is located in the mechanical room on the 8th floor of the 1300 York Avenue building. Note: this is not a freezer for emergencies. In case your freezer failes and need a backup, contact the FMCO dispatch line at 212-746-2288.
Allow for a few days to receive confirmation of your booking and to obtain instructions on how to access the space.
Note: this unit is set to -70°C to maximize energy efficiency but it can be adjusted to -80°C if you are more comfortable. It can also be set to -20°C if you need to defrost your -20°C freezer.
A defrosting kit consisting of cooler, ice scraper, brush, and cloth wipes is also available upon request.
