Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees, 7000 gallons of water, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, enough energy to power a house for 6 months.
Trash and recycling infrastructure in the student education center and library were renovated during the summer of 2023. The new bins moved towards a centralized recycling model with source-separated collection (paper and cardboard separated from the rest of the recycling), following the model and color coding of the New York Department of Sanitation.
The new sturdy and elegant bins have a backboard with custom-made signs that educate the users on what goes in which bin. Read more about this project here.
